Hydraulic hysteresis of natural pyroclastic soils in partially saturated conditions: experimental investigation and modelling

چکیده

Abstract In many geotechnical applications, especially in the study of weather-induced landslides, a reliable soil hydraulic characterization unsaturated conditions is required. Currently, experimental techniques that neglect hysteresis represent greatest limitation to landslide forecasting. this paper, procedure obtain an on natural pyroclastic samples proposed and verified. The approach enables evaluation properties along main drying path wetting/drying cycles fully quantify effects hysteresis. Pyroclastic collected at test site Mount Faito Campania region (southern Italy) were tested. investigation consisted sequence testing phases: constant-head conductivity test, forced evaporation followed by several wetting–drying cycles, pressure plate apparatus. hysteretic model Parker Lenhard (1987) was adopted fit data, while inverse modelling tests allowed derive parameters. Therefore, wetting branches response from any reversal point reproduced with model, which suitably described behaviour under all paths.

Hysteresis in the electrical resistivity of partially saturated sandstones

Laboratory measurements of the resistivity of three sandstone samples collected during imbibition (increasing SXJ) and drainage (decreasing Sn,) show pronounced hysteresis in resistivity throughout much of the saturation range. The variation in resistivity can be related to changes in pore-scale fluid distribution caused by changes in saturation history. The form of the hysteresis is such that ...

Experimental Investigation of Rill Creating Hydraulic Conditions in the Marl Rangelands in a Tilting Flume

Generally, the evaluation and assessment of the critical condition of rill formation are useful for a better understanding of soil erosion processes. The inherence characteristics of soils, which have much dynamic variations on the hillslopes and are affected by rill formation, are the soil critical shear stress and soil erodibility factors. This study aims to assess experimental rill incision ...

Experimental and Numerical Investigation of Bottom Outlet Hydraulic Model

Using experimental models along with conducting numerical analysis have been widely used in performance recognition and optimization of hydraulic equipments. Numerical modeling has lower cost rather than experimental one; however practical tests are commonly used because of the hydraulic structure importance especially in dams. Meanwhile numerical methods could be used for future designs throug...
